Jess has spent most of her career as a highly skilled veterinary nurse at one of NYC's most busy specialty and emergency hospitals. She has taught and lectured on cardiology, animal behavior, and low-stress handling of veterinary patients. She is Elite Fear-Free Certified.
Certified as a professional dog trainer through CCPDT, Jess has taught and published on behavior concerns both simple and complex. She's also a certified trick dog instructor and evaluator, and has extensive experience (and devotion!) to teaching cooperative care and consent for training. In more recent years she's worked as peer-to-peer consultant to other trainers who are managing serious cases of aggression, fear, and other emotion-based behaviors. She loves all the dogs, just as they are.
Jess has an additional certification in companion animal rehabilitation therapy (CCAT) on her nursing license. The certification allows Jess to design and implement multi-modal programs for injury prevention or recovery; healthy aging; management of chronic pain; weight optimization; and athletic conditioning. She has completed additional studies in the management of canine osteoarthritis (CAM-VP) and most recently earned certification as a Strength and Conditioning Coach.
Jordy is a 4-year-old mixed breed dog with multiple titles in Nosework and has his ETD (Expert Trick Dog). He is currently training in tracking (man-trailing). Jordy carries a mutation that predisposes him to disc herniation, and keeping him healthy and strong is a lifelong project of love. His hard (nose) work and readiness to try just about anything has helped Jess become a better companion-human and listener. Jordy is featured in many of the videos you'll see in N2TK9 courses!
